One source of truth for two centuries of commerce

Acker Wines · The world's oldest wine auction house · est. 1820

A data-architecture engagement for Acker Wines — the world's oldest wine auction house — unifying 250+ years of commerce data into a governed lakehouse and a living documentation platform, and laying the foundation for a suite of AI pricing, lotting, and personalization engines.

Acker Wines

Since 1820, Acker has built an unmatched record of wine commerce — but decades of that data lived across legacy systems, spreadsheets, and siloed databases, with no unified architecture, governance, or documentation. Before AI could add value anywhere, the data had to be made trustworthy, discoverable, and consistent.

We designed and built a 3-tier medallion lakehouse — Bronze (raw), Silver (cleaned and conformed), and Gold (analytics-ready) — with an automated source-discovery system that catalogs every table across the estate, and a 0–100 data-health scoring model spanning six quality dimensions. A Notion-like documentation platform keeps the architecture, sources, and standards living and searchable for the whole team.

With a single source of truth in place, the lakehouse became the platform for a suite of AI use cases — auction and retail pricing engines, personalized client catalogues, and lotting optimization — each drawing on the same governed, documented data.
